The sale of this artwork at the prestigious Sotheby's auction house marks a new milestone in the relationship between technology and art.

“AI God,” is a painting that depicts famed cryptanalyst Alan Turing, and it was created by Ai-Da, who is described on her website as being an “ultra-realistic robot artist.” The work, which was sold at Sotheby’s auction house in New York for over a million dollars this week, looks like this:

The first artwork done by a humanoid robot, famously known as Ai-Da, has been sold in auction for over $1 million.

Sotheby’s recently held an auction for the first artwork made by a humanoid robot. And while the company was expecting the sale to fall between $120,000 and $180,000, the piece ultimately went for over $1 million, after a fierce round that saw 27 bids.

Former gallerist Aidan Meller worked with a team of almost 30 people to build the robot, which is named Ai-Da, after Ada Lovelace.
