Cancelation of the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell live-action movie is a blessing in disguise as it saved the video game series from getting butchered.

It's official - Ubisoft's beleaguered Splinter Cell movie has been cancelled. As reported by The Direct, the movie - which was announced over a decade ago and was set to star Tom Hardy - has been canned because the production team "just couldn't get it right".

The Splinter Cell movie was first announced back in 2004 with a trailer on the Chaos Theory disc. It later entered development with Tom Hardy in talks to star in 2012, but then everything went very quiet with the latest update coming in 2015 when Hardy himself announced the movie would be released in 2017.
